  • University of Iowa professor believes the schools mascot is too scary. The professor believes incoming freshmen should be welcomed with a more nurturing mascot and the angry mascot could lead to violence. The professor also wants the mascot to be able to change emotions to be more human. [Link]
  • Cincinnati has recently faced a 5.5 increase in the amount of overdoses. Police believe that this is a result in a dealer using a very powerful batch of heroin to draw users back. Of course, lifting the prohibition on heroin would allow users to buy heroin at a known strength. [Link] War On Drugs Fyle
  • Minnesota gun buyback program is failing. The state is taking in guns from citizens, no questions asked, and paying citizens for their guns. Most guns coming in are antiques or broken.   • The FBI reports that hackers were able to access the election database of two different states. It is believed that the Illinois and Arizona election databases were hacked. This put the personal information of 200,000 voter at risk. [Link] FBI Fyle
  • Low interest rates and possible banking fees have prompted more and more Germans to take their money out of banks. Home safe sales are soaring are people buy them to hide money at home. This also occurred in Japan where interest rates are negative. [Link] Germany Fyle
  • ISIS bombs a Saudi military recruitment facility in Aden, Yemen, killing at least  71. The people Aden were not startled by the bombing and said they experience explosions like this frequently. [Link] Saudi Arabia Fyle
  • Turkey continues to make gains and take towns in Northern Syria. Turkey’s airstrikes seem to be mostly targeting the US-Backed Kurdish positions. Turkey claims to have killed 25 Kurds and international aid groups report Tukey killed 20 civilians. The US-Backed Kurdish fighters have been the only US ally to really have success in Syria against ISIS. The US is in a difficult position between its Kurdish allies and NATO ally, Turkey.
